Mirabal sisters 25th anniversary of their deat...

This past week is the most exciting one so far this semester.  It was a lot of work, and it was fun at the same time.  I still have a good bit to do, but I am always ready for it.

I cannot recall a day that I did not want to go to school or do the work that is required of me either on campus or off.  So far all my classes are magically connected.  For instance, I read a novel, “In the Time of the Butterflies” that was required in my English 1102 class.  This novel is based on a true story in the Dominican Republic.  It is ironic that I will be doing a report/presentation (tri-board) on this in my Human Geography class.  It is also a very special time as well.

The Mirabal sisters was murdered by a very evil dictator, Rafael Leónidas Trujillo Molina, on November 25, 1960.  He held total power over everyone between 1930-1961.  After he murdered the ladies, code name, “The Butterflies, “ the people of the Dominican Republic killed him about six months after.  I will be doing my report on November 29 this year.  One cannot do this report at a better time.

I am planning to show both sides of this.  I will show the horrors that everyone in that country faced with this dictator and what La Mariposas (The Butterflies) did for all of them.  Today the in Dominican Republic are living a much better life than ever before because of these three sisters.  The fourth one was spared so she can tell their stories, Bélgica Adela "Dedé" Mirabal-Reyes.

I have done a lot of research on La Mariposas.  I feel a strong responsibility to share what I know of them.  They acted like true patriarchs to freedom.  That is how the USA got to be the leading country around the world on Liberty.  How I see it, they did more for just the freedoms of every living soul in the Dominican Republic.  They lit up around the world to all that are being suppressed under tyranny.

Long live the Butterflies!!
